Working with NPCs

NPC, short for "non-playable character", is common in RPGs, and other genres involving characters as time goes. To ensure interacting with NPCs as fun as it supposed to, they need personalities, good design and a fun way to interact with them.

In my project, included a very interesting mode called the Village, this is where you can explore a full scale of Dripsdale's main village as you mingle with the villagers (no inside sectors, sorry). As you see in the above GIF, you simply walking to them to hear their greetings and other humorous dialogues. But not just NPCs, there are also other things you can "interact" with, like walking near signs, hanged signs (it's not there but you should know where to look), and even listening through someone's window.

Though, not everyone or everything is in the Village from the start. As you progress through the main game, you'll notice new objects and villagers appeared out of thin air.

About the characters? Not easy to make, to be honest. To make things simpler, in the backstage of character design, I have to use a template, with a predefined animation set. In the animation process, their body parts are separated so they can be easily replaced or swapped and match with their color scheme. Like I say, it's not easy, because both the character's hands and tuft must be the same color as the "outer outline" of the white circle on their faces. And of course, their genders! To me, there are 2 things that make a character feminine, eyelashes and hairstyle. I can easily spot a female by looking at these features.

Alright, I think that's all for this devlog. I may post more of these when I probably want to. Anyway, I hope you've decided to play this game in the future!
